Greenwich Village Little League is a 100% volunteer run organization. During 2024, 950 kids played baseball and softball with GVLL making us one of the largest little leagues in the country. So not only do we need enthusiastic on-field volunteers to coach and manage teams, we also need many folks to get involved and keep things running smoothly behind the scenes.

So, if your player enjoys baseball or softball and plans to keep playing for a few years, then WE NEED YOU to get more involved with running this league. Here are a few reasons why you would do that:

1. If you don't like how something is done ... you can make sure it is changed!

2. If you do like how something is done ... you can make sure we do more of that!

3. As your player gets older they may spend up to 5 days a week in various activities offered through GVLL. And if you get involved now, you ensure that the program your child spends so much time in is strong and functional and reflects the priorities you think are important in a recreational youth sports league.

4. Do you see how much fun our kids have? The GVLL leadership team has (almost) as much fun running things. And just like your kids will make friends from different neighborhoods and schools as they progress through GVLL -- you will too!

We have roles both big and small, both in front of the crowd and behind the scenes. Some roles span all seasons, and some are only several weeks of work. How to register as a volunteer:
See below for volunteer role descriptions. Then ...
1. Create and sign in to your account on this website.
2. Select "My Account" in the upper right corner of the webpage.
3. Select “Volunteer” on the left side of the page.
4. Select “Find Volunteer Roles” (aqua blue button) in upper right corner of the webpage.
5. Select the division where you wish to volunteer, and then click “view available roles.”
6. You will see options to sign up as a Manager, Coach, Safety Officer, or Non-Coaching Volunteer.

Volunteer FAQ

Why Volunteer?

The earlier you become involved in volunteering your time to the league, the more beneficial it is to you and to the league.

Does GVLL perform background checks on its volunteers?
Yes. All GVLL volunteers who are working with kids/coaching are required to submit to an annual background check, per Little League of America regulations.

Each league shall: Require that all of the following personnel have annually submitted a fully completed official “Little League Volunteer Application” to the local league president, prior to the applicant assuming his/her duties for the current season: Managers, Coaches, Board of Directors members and any other persons, volunteers or hired workers, who provide regular service to the league and/or have repetitive access to, or contact with, players or teams.

I’d like to be a Manager or Coach. How does that process work?
Fill out the GVLL volunteer form (see above for instructions) and indicate that you would like to be a Manager or Coach. We will let you know if your help is needed before the start of the season. Please note that there are fewer available coaching spots in the AAA and Majors divisions and that positions on those teams tend to go to volunteers with prior coaching experience in the League.

Who should volunteer?
We need all sorts of skills to make our organization run smoothly and efficiently -- handy men, doctors, lawyers, accountants, administrators, film makers, marketers, designers, webmasters, writers, teachers -- anyone with time to offer.
