Banners and Pre-Opening Day Prep
Every team creates a team banner for opening day and then for use throughout the season. During the Opening Day ceremony, the banners will be displayed and judged. One softball team and one baseball team will win a prize, which is a paid outing to a Staten Island Ferryhawks or Brooklyn Cyclones game (the team can choose which one).
Managers -- it is your responsibility to ensure your team has a banner for opening day. You don't have to be the one to make it, but you do have to make sure it happens. More info. on banners can be found here.

Parents -- It would be awesome if a volunteer parent from each team could take a photo of the team with their banner and email it to: [email protected].
Arrival & Team Gatherings
Opening Day is held at Pier 40! Players should arrive IN UNIFORM by 10 AM and gather with their teams on field and near the INSIDE of the fence at their pre-designated spot on the field (please note: this is a change from previous years). There will be a map posted at the field so when you arrive you can ask a greeter and/or look at the map to direct you to your team. Please know your division and your team name on arrival. Once kids have arrives and checked in with their team, they will be invited to play field day games.
Photo Station
A photo station will be set up where players can take individual photos. These photos won’t just be keepsakes—they can also be turned into various items such as magnets, mugs, and even Baseball Cards. The baseball cards will be especially fun for teams, as they can trade them over the course of the season.
Marching Band & Team Introduction
Once the games and team gatherings wrap up, everyone will be called to the stage for the Marching Band performance. This will be followed by a Team Roll Call, where each team will be introduced.
Opening Ceremony
After the roll call, we’ll move into the formal ceremony, which will include the following:
- Star-Spangled Banner
- Overhead Photo -- an annual picture of our whole league gathered in one place!!
- Ceremony & Pledge of Allegiance
- First Pitch
Tug of War Brackets
To close out the event, some of the older divisions will compete in Tug of War brackets.
End of Day and Opening Day Baseball Games
We’re aiming to wrap up the ceremony around 1:30 - 2:00 PM. Please plan to stick around and watch the first games of the Minors' season play at 2:00pm right at the same location at Pier 40!
