Spring Divisions

Baseball T-Ball

  • Co-ed ages 5-6.

  • Each team has parent volunteer manager, head coach and 2 assistant coaches.  In addition, new this year, we plan to have 2 professional (P3) coaches rotating around helping with concurrent practices and games.​

  • Teams are built based on requests (former teammates and/or friends) and players are generally grouped together with kids from the same schools. While every attempt is made, not all requests can be met if the team is full.

  • Parent supervised, recreational, learning and fun.  

  • Meets Sunday mornings for 90 minutes (including 30 minutes of practice/drills and 1 hour game).  

  • Children hit from T-ball stand with coach pitch for those who are ready as season progresses.

  • Games are on Sunday mornings on the Pier 40 rooftop level as well as on the Pier 40 Courtyard.   

  • First year players:  must upload birth certificate and proof of residency during on-line registration.

Baseball Junior Minors

  • Co-ed ages 7 & 8.

  • Each team has parent volunteer manager, head coach and 2 assistant coaches.  Coaches pitch in this division.  In addition on practice days teams rotate/share bi-monthly practice/clinics with professional (P3) coaches.

  • Teams are built based on requests (former teammates and/or friends) and players are generally grouped together with kids from the same schools.  While every attempt is made, not all requests can be met if the team is full.

  • Parent supervised, recreational, learning and fun.

  • 1 game/week (90 - 120 minutes) on Sundays.

  • Practices on Saturdays for 1 to 2 hours.

  • Games and practices are held at De Witt Clinton Field and/or Pier 40.

 

Baseball Minors

  • Co-ed ages 9-11.

  • Each team has a parent volunteer manager, head coach and 2 assistant coaches.   

  • Teams are built based on requests (former teammates and/or friends) and players are generally grouped together with kids from the same schools.  While every attempt is made, not all requests can be met if the team is full.

  • 1 game per week with partial majors rules (e.g., no stolen bases).   Games in one of 3 time slots on Saturdays at Pier 40.  All games completed by 3:30 on Saturdays.

  • 1 Practice/week (90 minutes to 2 hours) on Sundays at Chelsea Park or at Pier 40. New this year:  P3 coaches will rotate and visit practices 1-2times/month and/or run bimonthly clinics for Minors players (details tbd).

  • Players (not coaches) pitch for majority of season (note: in early season for younger teams there may be some coach pitch)

  • Pitching and catching clinics early in season run by the P3 coaches.

  • No standings kept, no playoffs or post season.

  • Professional umpires.

  • No tryout is required (tryout only required for Majors Division and above).

Baseball Majors

  • Co-ed ages 10-12.

  • Advanced play using a competitive game framework and age-appropriate Little League playing rules.

  • General rules include stealing (no leadoffs) and infield fly rule. To avoid injuries, we monitor pitch counts and use of catchers in all games.

  • 2 competitive games/week (Pier 40, JJ Walker on Friday, Saturday and/or Sunday and occasional games on Sundays at Randalls’ Island Field 40).

  • 1 mandatory practice session (90 minutes to 2 hours) on weekday afternoon or evening week at Pier 40 or JJ Walker.  Indoor practices begin in early March.

  • Indoor practices throughout season run by Pier 40/P3 baseball and team coaches. Pitching and catching clinics pre-season run by the P3 coaches.

  • Professional umpires.

  • Participation in Majors requires a high level of commitment and NO major conflicts of any kind.

  • Each team has a volunteer manager, head coach and 2 assistant coaches.  A P3 coach will attend most outdoor practices as well.

  • Entry is by mandatory tryout (generally on Superbowl Sunday) with pre-tryouts and winter workouts available to all 9 and older from December onwards.   Returning players must also try out. Previous experience in the Minors division is strongly recommended, unselected players will play in Minors.  All 12-year-olds will make Majors unless they specify they want to be in Minors.

  • Teams are drafted by the league's coaching staff according to skills at tryouts and abilities in prior seasons.

  • Regular season generally starts in late March and ends in early June.

  • Playoff and Championship games will take place in early to mid June, attendance to these games is crucial to team success.

  • The most skilled players are invited to participate or may try out at certain points in the year for the league's various tournament and travel team efforts.

  • Bats: Approved Little League of America wooden, metal bats and composite handles only. GVLL goes a step beyond LLoA and does not allow all composite bats or bats with composite barrels. ​

Baseball Juniors

  • Co-ed ages 13-14.

  • Competitive play.

  • Wood bats only, 2 1/2 inch barrel.

  • Each team has volunteer manager, head coach and 2 assistant coaches.

  • 2 games on Saturday and/or Sundays with travel (fields include Central Park, Murry Bergtraum Field, Randall’s Island and Pier 40).

  • 1 practice a week at Pier 40 with team and P3 coaches.

  • Practices begin in March, Season begins in April and runs thru mid/late June.

  • Mandatory tryout, even for returning players.

 

Baseball Seniors

  • Co-ed ages 15-16.

  • Competitive play.

  • Wood bats only, 2 1/2 inch barrel.

  • Each team has volunteer manager, head coach and 2 assistant coaches.

  • 2 games on Saturday and/or Sundays with travel (fields include Central Park, Murry Bergtraum Field, Randall’s Island and Pier 40).

  • 1 Practice a week at Pier 40 with team and P3 coaches.

  • Practices begin in March, Season begins in April and runs thru mid/late June.

  • Mandatory tryout, even for returning players.

​​Baseball - Challenger Division

  • Boys and girls with physical and/or developmental challenges age 4-18 (up to age 22 if still enrolled in school). No previous experience necessary.
  • Games are developmentally appropriate with an emphasis on fun and teamwork.
  • 1 game per week on Saturdays from late April through June at Battery Park City Ball Fields.


 

Girls Softball - T-Ball

  • Girls ages 4 – 6; no previous softball experience necessary.

  • Parent supervised, recreational and geared towards learning and fun.

  • Teams are built based on requests (former teammates and/or friends) and players are generally grouped together with kids from the same schools. While every attempt is made, not all requests can be met if the team is full.

  • Girls hit from T-ball stand with introduction later in the season to underhand pitching by a coach.

  • Girls are introduced to the general rules of baseball/softball.

  • 1 practice per week, includes professional coaches - practice includes an instructional game.

  • Practices/games are on Saturday mornings at Chelsea Waterside Park at 23rd Street between the Westside Highway and 11th Avenue, across from Chelsea Piers.

  • First year players:  must upload birth certificate and proof of residency during on-line registration.

 Girls Softball - Junior Minors

  • Girls ages 7-8; no previous softball experience necessary.

  • Parent supervised, recreational and geared towards learning and fun.

  • Teams are built based on requests (former teammates and/or friends) and players are generally grouped together with kids from the same schools.  While every attempt is made, not all requests can be met if the team is full.

  • Junior Minors teams will meet most weekends on both Saturday and Sunday as follows:  

    • Practices on Saturdays (includes professional coaches);

    • Intra-league games on Sundays (coach pitch); and

    • Majority of practices and games will take place at Chelsea Waterside Park (23rd Street between the Westside Highway and 11th Avenue, across from Chelsea Piers).

Girls Softball - Minors

  • Girls ages 9-10; no previous softball experience necessary.

  • Parent supervised, recreational and geared towards learning and fun.

  • Girls are introduced to many of the rules that are unique to Little League Softball, including windmill pitching.

  • Teams are built based on requests (former teammates and/or friends) and players are generally grouped together with kids from the same schools.  While every attempt is made, not all requests can be met if the team is full.

  • 1 practice at Pier 40 with P3 coaches during the week.

  • Practice with professional coaches on Saturday mornings at Chelsea Waterside Park (23rd Street between the Westside Highway and 11th Avenue, across from Chelsea Piers).

  • Recreational inter-league and/or intra-league game generally on Sunday (combination coach and kid pitch), sometimes with nearby Little Leagues either at Chelsea Waterside Park, Pier 40 or a nearby Little League facility (for example, Westside Little League Fields at Riverside Park).

 Girls Softball - Majors

  • Girls ages 11-12; some softball/baseball experience recommended, but not required.

  • More competitive softball, but still instructional in nature.

  • 1 practice at Pier 40 with P3 and other professional coaches during the week.

  • 1 team practice at Pier 40 or Chelsea Waterside Park on Friday nights or Saturday mornings, respectively, that includes professional coaches.

  • 1 or 2 competitive recreational inter-league games each weekend with nearby Little Leagues either at Chelsea Waterside Park, Pier 40, Chelsea Park or a nearby Little League facility (for example, Westside Little League Fields at Riverside Park).

​​Girls Softball - Juniors

  • Girls ages 13-14; competitive softball.

  • ​​1 practice at Pier 40 with P3 and other professional coaches during the week.
  • 1 team practice at Pier 40 on Saturdays.
  • 1 or 2 interleague games with nearby Little Leagues per weekend at Chelsea Waterside Park, Pier 40 or a nearby Little League facility.

  • Girls ages 15-16; competive softball.

  • ​​1 practice at Pier 40 with P3 and other professional coaches during the week.
  • 1 team practice at Pier 40 on Saturdays.
  • 1 or 2 interleague games with nearby Little Leagues per weekend at Chelsea Waterside Park, Pier 40 or a nearby Little League facility.
