Divisions of Play

T-Ball

  • Co-ed ages 5 & 6
  • Parent supervised, recreational, learning and fun
  • 1 game/week
  • Children hit from T-ball stand
  • Games are on Sunday mornings on the Pier 40 rooftop level; no practices
  • First year players must register in person

Junior Minors

  • Co-ed ages 7 & 8’s
  • Parent supervised, recreational, learning and fun
  • 1 game/week
  • Coaches pitch
  • Games are on Sunday mornings at Pier 40
  • Practices on Saturdays

Minors

  • Co-ed ages 9-12
  • 1 recreational game per week with partial rules (e.g., no stolen bases).
  • 1 practice per week
  • No tryout is required
  • Games in one of 3 time slots on Saturdays at Pier 40
  • Practice on Sundays at Chelsea Park

Majors National

  • Co-ed ages 10-12
  • Advanced play using a competitive game framework and age-appropriate Little League playing rules
  • General rules include stealing (no leadoffs) and infield fly rule. To avoid injuries, we also monitor pitch counts and use of catchers in all games.
  • 2 competitive games/week (Pier 40 or JJ Walker on Friday, Saturday and/or Sunday)
  • 1-2 mandatory practice sessions / week
  • Professional umpires
  • Participation in Majors National requires a high level of commitment and NO major conflicts of any kind.
  • Entry is by tryout, including returning players and experience in the Minors division is strongly recommended and unselected players will play in Minors
  • Teams are drafted by the league’s coaching staff
  • Regular season generally starts in late March and will ends in early June
  • Playoff and Championship games will take place in early to mid June
  • Skilled players are asked to participate in the league’s various tournament efforts

Majors American

  • Co-ed ages 10-12

  • Competitive play
  • Wood bats only
  • 2 games/wk with travel
  • Mandatory tryout, even for returning players
  • Girls can tryout or play in Girls Sr. Softball

Girl’s Softball – T-Ball

  • Girls ages 4 – 7; no previous softball experience necessary
  • Parent supervised, recreational and geared towards learning and fun
  • Girls hit from T-ball stand with introduction later in the season to underhand pitching by a coach
  • Girls are introduced to the general rules of baseball/softball
  • 1 instructional game per week/no separate practices
  • Games are on Saturday mornings at Chelsea Waterside Park at 23rd Street and 11th Avenue, across from Chelsea Piers
  • First year players must register in person (for all divisions of baseball and softball)

Girl’s Softball – Minors

  • Girls ages 7-12; no previous softball experience necessary
  • Parent supervised, recreational and geared towards learning and fun
  • Girls are first introduced to many of the rules that are unique to Little League Softball, including windmill pitching
  • 1 clinic at Chelsea Waterside Park on Saturday morning or early afternoon
  • 1 recreational interleague game with nearby Little Leagues per weekend either at Chelsea Waterside Park, Pier 40 or a nearby Little League facility (for example, Downtown LL Field in Battery Park City)

Girl’s Softball – Majors

  • Girls ages 10 – 12; some softball/baseball experience recommended
  • More competitive softball, but still instructional in nature
  • 1 practice at Pier 40 during the week
  • 1 clinic at Chelsea Waterside Park on Saturday morning or early afternoon
  • 1 interleague game with nearby Little Leagues per weekend either at Chelsea Waterside Park, Pier 40 or a nearby Little League facility (for example, Downtown LL Field in Battery Park City)
  • Post-season Tournament opportunities will be available

Girl’s Softball – Juniors

  • Girls ages 12-14; softball/baseball experience generally required
  • Even more competitive (but still always fun and instructive)
  • 1 practice at Pier 40 during the week (generally after 5 p.m. to accommodate school schedules)
  • 1 clinic at Chelsea Waterside Park on Saturday morning or early afternoon
  • 1 Interleague game with nearby Little Leagues per weekend either at Chelsea Waterside Park, Pier 40 or a nearby Little League facility
  • Post-season Tournament opportunities will be available
