GVLL 2012 Approved Bat List

GVLL has taken a more conservative position than the Little League of America with respect to bat requirements and have applied additional restrictions. Please do not assume that a bat approved by LLoA can be used during GVLL season play.

Major League and below:

Barrel diameter of 2 1/4 inches or less
No composite barrel bats are allowed, composite handle is ok

Upper Divisions (both Juniors and Seniors):

2 5/8 inch barrel only
Only wooden bats are allowed, no metal alloy or composite of any type.

Girls Softball

All youth softball bats approved by LLoA are approved for GVLL play.

Majors Tryout Schedule Now Live

Attention 2012 Majors Division players and parents. This year we are trying something to new to make the Majors Division tryouts run even more smoothly.

All players must sign up for a time slot for tryouts. Please have your player report to Pier 40′s indoor baseball facilities 15 minutes before the start of their tryout time to sign in and be put into tryout groups.

Important: Please note that tryout times are based on division they played in last year, players age, and whether your player is trying out for pitcher or catcher. Please review each session description prior to selecting your session.

Every player MUST REGISTER for a tryout slot. This ensures that all players receive equal evaluation time while also allowing GVLL to effectively manage this process.

The time slots are as follows:

8:00AM – 9-10 year olds. all returning Minors players trying out for Majors National or American, general positions
8:45AM – 10 to 11 year olds, returning Majors players trying out for Nationals Division, general positions
9:30AM – 9-10 year old, pitchers & catcher tryouts
10:15AM – 9-10 year old, pitcher & catcher tryouts
11:00AM – 11-12 year old, pitcher & catcher tryouts
11:45AM – 11-12 year old, pitcher & catcher tryouts
12:30PM – 10-11 year olds, returning Majors players players trying out for the American division, general positions
1:15PM – 12 year olds, players trying out for Majors National or American, general positions

Please note:

-Returning American division players: are guaranteed a spot in American, tryouts are still highly recommended.

-Returning Nationals Division players: are guaranteed a spot in Nationals and MAY make American. Tryouts are required.

-Minors players who are trying out for Majors MAY make Nationals or American, but may not make Majors this season and will then be in Minors. Tryouts are required.

-All 12 year olds who have not yet been in Majors are guaranteed a spot in Majors..but tryouts are required.

There will be a make-up tryout session on 2/7/11, at 7PM.

Online Registrations for New Players are Now Being Accepted

Due to continuing demand for the the Spring 2012 season, GVLL has opened up online registration for new players in the following age categories:

Ages 5-6 for T-Ball
Ages 9 and up for Minors, Majors, Juniors & Seniors

To register, you will need to complete 2 actions.

Register via Active.com. The registration fee is now $200.
E-Mail scanned/photographed images of proof of age and residency to gvll.comms@gmail.com

Acceptable forms of age & residency proof include:

proof of age (passport, birth certificate)
proof of residence (cable bill, insurance bill, utility bill, etc) that confirms that you reside within the GVLL district.

If you are unsure if you live within GVLL’s district, please check here for details or the map below.

Failure to provide appropriate documentation, as detailed above, will result in a 50% refund and your child will not be permitted to play in GVLL.

A final date has been set for Juniors & Seniors tryouts.

Tryouts will take place on Sunday, February 26, 2012 at the following times:

2/26/12, 8AM-1PM – Juniors Tryouts
2/26/12, 1PM-4PM – Seniors Tryouts

In addition, extra pre-tryout workouts, which will be attended by P3 and GVLL coaches will take place on the following dates:

1/22/12 2:00PM-4:30PM: Indoor workouts including batting & pitching instruction
1/29/12 1:30PM-4:30PM: Official Pre-Tryouts

Pitching Safety Clinic for Upper Divison Coaches – Sunday 2/22/12

Mickey Levinson, a physical trainer from Hospital for Special Surgery who specializes in working with pitchers come will be performing a pitching safety clinic on the January 22nd.

This session is open to all COACHES (NOT PLAYERS) from the Majors level and above (Juniors & Seniors).

The event will be held in the pitching room at P3 inside Pier 40.

Tryout Season Has Begun!

It may still be the winter, but tryout season has begun for the upper divisions of GVLL. In order for players to get tuned up for their tryouts, GVLL and P3 have setup weekend training sessions which are attended by the P3 instructors and coaches from all GVLL upper divisions.

In order to play in the upper divisions, players must tryout in order to be drafted.

Majors:
Players wishing to play in the Majors can participate in pre-tryout sessions on Sundays at Pier 40. Remaining sessions:

1/22/12 10AM-1PM: Official Pre-Tryouts
1/29/12 10AM-1PM: Official Pre-Tryouts
2/5/12 8AM-2PM: Majors Tryouts (please watch web site for more details)

The majors draft will be held on 2/16/12.

Juniors/Seniors:
Players wishing to play in the Juniors and Seniors can participate in workout sessions on Sundays at Pier 40. Remaining sessions:
